Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What type of ID is needed for Notary Appointment?
Current state issues driver’s license or non-driver’s ID card, current US passport, current US Military ID or Current Permanent Resident ID issued by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Q. Who can be a witness for a notarization?
The person selected to be a witness must be over the age of 18 and is not named in the document and has no personal interest in the transaction.
Q. Does notarized document expire?
No. Once a document is notarized, that signature cannot expire.
Q. Can a certified copy of a birth certificate or a marriage license be made?
No. Birth certificates and marriage licenses are publically recordable documents. Recordable documents are recorded with some specific governmental entity, such as the secretary of state’s office, a court of law, a county clerk, of Bureau of Vital Statistics.
A certified copy of a recordable document may be obtained by contacting the recording entity. A notary cannot make certified copies of recordable documents.
